Why Europe’s Security Can’t Wait
The institutions, investment and shared decisions behind a more resilient European security policy.

The institutions, investment and shared decisions behind a more resilient European security policy.
The urgency in this fictional security column concerns long preparation times. Training technicians, qualifying suppliers and upgrading transport connections can take years, so waiting for a crisis leaves fewer choices. Readiness is built through decisions whose value may remain invisible when conditions are calm.
Urgency should not remove scrutiny. It should encourage governments to identify a short list of concrete gaps, explain why they matter and assign responsibility for addressing them. Europe’s security would benefit from that disciplined preparation more than from a succession of broad promises without measurable delivery.
